UPDATE: Man killed in Albany fatal shooting identified; APD seeking information

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Albany Police Department (APD) has started an investigation of a shooting that occurred near the 100 block of West Oglethorpe Boulevard.

Two men were shot, and one died from his injuries, according to APD.

APD said the man killed was identified as Rossini Jones, 24. The second victim, also 24, was shot in the hip but was able to drive to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital (PPMH).

Officers went to PPMH, where they learned two there were two victims.

According to the survivor, the incident happened somewhere near the Waffle House in the 100 block of W. Oglethorpe Boulevard.

Police also said the second victim picked up Jones from the area and shortly after, an unknown person shot up the car.

PPMH officials said the second victim is being treated and evaluated in the emergency room.

The 911 call was made at 3:41 a.m.

“We’re looking, trying to determine where the actual crime scene is. We started off with the 100 block of West Oglethorpe but that isn’t a definite location as of yet,” Michael Persley, Albany police chief, said. “Currently, we are interviewing some witnesses and reviewing camera footage from a couple of areas.”

That’s in the area of Ward 3, which is governed by City of Albany Commissioner BJ Fletcher.

She responded and said “my sympathies go out to the family and may God be with them. We’re doing what we can do as a community to keep this community safe. Keep a watchful eye out for your neighbor.”

The other victim is cooperating with police however at this time, we are not releasing his name.

Police told us it’s not known right now if the two men were targeted or if this was gang-related.

Currently, APD said there are no suspects, but police want anyone who saw or heard anything Friday morning, to call Albany Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS or the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100 and ask to speak with an investigator.
