ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Program and Breakfast that was scheduled for Jan. 18 has been canceled.
The event was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Nathan Paige & the MLK Community Mass Choir & Musicians, all of the vendors and the entire southwest Georgia community for your unwavering support over the past 40 years,” said Anne Johnson, the president of H.E.A.R.T. Organization, Inc. in a press release.
The event was hosted by H.E.A.R.T. Organization, Inc. and sponsored by the Albany Procter & Gamble Paper Products Company.
This is the first time in 41 years that the MLK Breakfast will not take place.
“Your loyalty and financial donations have helped HEART make our communities better places to live and work,” said Johnson. “Please know that we remain committed to strengthening our community by providing properly fitting Shoes from the HEART to children in need so they can learn, play, thrive, reach their highest potential, and be their best selves. Our 2021 goal is to purchase 500 pairs of athletic shoes for the December distribution.”
According to a release, the event was canceled out of concern for the health and safety of the community.
“We will adhere to the CDC and our local authority’s COVID-19 guidelines,” said Johnson.
