MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) - A Colquitt County jailer has been arrested, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
The GBI said it was requested to assist the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office on the morning of Jan. 4, to investigate information that a Colquitt County jailer, later identified as Amber Richter, 25, was bringing contraband to an inmate.
The GBI’s investigation found that Richter brought prohibited contraband into the Colquitt County Jail and provided it to an inmate within the last two weeks, the release states.
Richter was arrested Wednesday and charged with providing prohibited items to an inmate and violation of oath of office, the GBI reported. The release said she was booked into the Colquitt County Jail.
This case is still active and ongoing, but once complete, the GBI said it will be turned over to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.
Anyone with any information on this investigation is asked to call the GBI Thomasville Field Office at (229) 225-4090.
