Murder warrants issued in Albany October homicide

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Murder warrants have been issued for two men in the death of Jawaski Kennedy, 28, in Albany on October 17, 2020, according to a press release from the Albany Police Department (APD).

APD said felony murder warrants have been issued against Shaquille Mathis, 26 and Carlos Mathis, 25, in connection to Kennedy’s homicide.

Police told WALB News 10 that the two are brothers.


The shooting:

Kennedy was killed in a shooting in the 700 block of West Highland Avenue around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 17, a police report stated.

A 24-year-old woman was also injured in the same shooting.

APD said the two victims were walking to their car when an unknown suspect(s) drove past in a white sedan and opened fire.


Police said aggravated assault and additional charges are pending against the two.

Both Shaquille and Carlos were already in the Dougherty County Jail on unrelated charges, according to APD.

WALB has requested the mugshots for both men.
