CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - Five juveniles were arrested in connection to a burglary on Tuesday, according to the Cordele Police Department.
Police said they responded to an active security alarm at Dollar General in the 1100 block of East 16th Ave. around 11:55 p.m.
When officers arrived, they said they encountered two juveniles, and saw that the front glass door of the business was broken.
Shortly after, police said they found three more juveniles that appeared to be involved. One juvenile was also in possession of a BB gun, according to the department.
Police said store surveillance showed where the juveniles entered the business, and further investigation also led to four nearby businesses and one car with BB gun holes and broken windows.
These juveniles, all from Cordele, ranged from 7 to 13 years of age. They are being charged with second-degree burglary, criminal damage to property, and criminal trespass.
The Department of Juvenile Justice was also contacted regarding the charges on juvenile offenders. The children were released to their respective parents pending further judicial action with the Juvenile Court.
“We are very concerned with the ages of the offenders in this investigation and are working closely with other community agencies as this investigation continues. I would like to commend my officers on their quick response and apprehending the offenders quickly,” said Police Chief Lewis Green.
