THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - Construction is less than a week away for Weston Park in Thomasville.

The city said plans for renovation have been in the works for a few years now.

City Planner Kenny Thompson said they began talking about this renovation in spring 2017.

After holding a charrette, or planning meeting, they developed the vision plan with the people in the area, including those who live in the Dewey City neighborhood. That’s where the park is located.

Funding was developed this year to be placed in the budget.

The Thomasville City Council approved the final plan in October.

Thompson gave details on all the updates will entail.

“They include a lighted walking trail that will go around the park. They include renovation of playground picnic structures. Re-doing some improvements to the playground area, to the parking, bathrooms, some safety improvements as well as some aesthetic improvements as well,” said Thompson.

Thompson said Thomasville National Bank approached them in hopes to contribute to the project.

According to their contract, construction will begin on Dec. 14.

Thompson said this will last about four months and should be complete by April 2021
