ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The state has seen an uptick in fatal traffic accidents from this time last year during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

A total of 24 fatalities happened during the holiday travel period. The travel period, which was 102 hours long, began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

In 2019, there were 12 fatalities during the Thanksgiving travel period.

At least four of those fatalities happened in the WALB viewing area and were worked by Georgia State Patrol posts in Americus, Thomasville and Tifton.
