LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Leesburg, according to the agency.

It happened on the 280 block of Linden Road.

The incident:

Around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to Linden Road to serve court-mandated paperwork to Rodney Morrison, 47.

The GBI said Morrison threatened deputies with a knife as they tried to serve the paperwork. He then ran from his home to a field. The Leesburg Police Department then assisted in the incident.

The GBI said Morrison was shot by a Leesburg police officer and later died at an area hospital.

No officers were injured in the incident.

GBI officials said the agency will conduct an investigation into the incident. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit.
