Sylvester's Conagra plant to shutter operations in 2020

SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - Conagra Foods will shutter its operations in Sylvester come 2020, according to Dan Hare, company spokesperson.

Hare said the final days of operation will be in summer 2020.

Employees have been told about the closing.

The company released a statement to WALB on Wednesday:

About a month ago, we met with employees to inform them that we need to close the facility in Sylvester so that we can remain competitive. The transition will be finalized in the summer of 2020 and will impact approximately 175 positions. Conagra is committed to supporting impacted employees as they transition out of the company or to other positions within the company.

The city of Sylvester released a statement to WALB on Thursday:

The Worth County Economic Development Authority and Chamber of Commerce are disappointed to hear of the decision made by the Conagra Corporate Headquarters to close the plant in Sylvester. We are here to help make the transition for Conagra and its employees as smooth as possible.
