VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - While Veterans Day is over, the celebration of those who served and who continue to serve our country is not.
Valwood School hosted more than 150 veterans from across the country for its 12th Annual Veterans Day Program. A tradition that school officials said is to honor those who fought and sacrificed for our country.
John Davis, the head of the school, said they want to ensure the children continue to acknowledge where their freedom comes from.
“It’s the ultimate sacrifice that they have made for us to be able to get up every morning and do what we want to do because of the freedom that they have given us. I think that our children, we think sometimes they don’t appreciate or understand, they certainly do," said Davis.
For the program, the students wrote personal letters inviting the veterans, they also performed, recognized and ate lunch with the group.
Davis said when this program is over, they will immediately start thinking of how to make next year’s event even bigger and better.
