CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - In a food drive, Cordele’s Ameris Bank branch came in fourth place out of nearly 200 other bank branches in a competition to gather canned goods for families in need this holiday season.

Tracy Stewart, the Cordele Ameris Bank branch manager, said that she loves working for a company that invests in its community.

“We collect canned goods and this year we collected over 43,000 canned goods. We are really proud of that, for Cordele, that is awesome. We are glad to help our community out like that,” Stewart said.

The bank has a 10-year relationship with the foodbank at the Northern Heights Baptist Church in Cordele.

“For those that are less fortunate or just having a hard time, it’s always good to know that we can play a part in helping them. It brings a lot of joy to us and we are proud to be a part of it,” said Stewart.

Stewart said that next year, they are hoping to come out in first place.

“That is pretty phenomenal for us to be fourth, but hey, we are always up for a good challenge,” said Stewart.

The bank will provide a $10,000 check along with the canned goods to the Northern Heights Baptist Church food bank to make sure families are fed this holiday season.
