CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - The driver of a fatal hit and run in Cordele is in custody and the victim has been identified, according to the Cordele Police Department.
Ashley Glenn, 28, turned herself in Tuesday for the incident that happened Monday.
Ethelene Lewis, 54, was found deceased off the road in the 1600 block of Joe Wright Drive.
The investigation found it was a hit and run, police said.
Warrants for first degree homicide by vehicle and hit and run and duty of driver to stop at or return to accident were issued for Glenn, who was also cited for violation of license restrictions.
Ashley Glenn was released on bond Wednesday afternoon at 2:35, according to the sheriff’s office.
“This is a tragedy for our community," Lewis Green, Cordele police chief, said. "Ms. Lewis was a part of our community and was frequently seen walking up and down Joe Wright Drive. I send my condolences to her family.”
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (GSP SCRT) from Valdosta responded and is handling the investigation.
