Inmate escaped from Terrell State Prison

DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) - A Terrell County Correctional Institute inmate that escaped Thursday has been captured by U.S. Marshals Service and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.

Billy Ray George, 50, escaped from the prison early in the morning, likely by kicking in a door to the shop where the keys are kept, and left with a vehicle.

He was still driving the gold super duty pickup truck that was stolen from the prison at the time of his escape, officials said.

George was arrested without incident.

WALB spoke with Dost Mohammad, the owner of SOWEGA Rentals. He said it is scary for the community that a criminal is on the loose.

Mohammad said he is not going to do anything different safety wise to his business because of the escaped inmate.

“Business is going to have to go on as usual," Mohammad said. “So, you can not put a stop on the life.”
