ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Excitement in Albany quickly built as the Atlanta Dream got ready for tip off in their final preseason game, which so happened to take place at the Albany Civic Center.
The doors opened at 6 p.m., but fans were already lining up well before then.
Everyone we spoke with told us they’re in utter shock that the Dream traveled to Albany to play one of their games.
Many of them said if this didn’t happen, they don’t believe they would’ve ever had the chance to see them play in person.
“I think this is a cool experience because I love basketball and if I could play basketball I would, but I can’t so I watch it. And I’ve always wanted to go to a NBA game, and there’s one here so I finally get to go and I’m like, yeah, said Angel Brown.
Another fan, London Brown told WALB, “I have the game on my Xbox and I always play it but I’ve never seen them before. I’ve never seen them in real life, and that’s crazy.”
This is the first time a women's pro-team has competed in Albany.
Which happened at the perfect time, because officials with the Civic Center told us the court had just been refurbished for the first time in 20 years.
The Dream lost to the Mystics in the semi-final round in the 2018 WNBA Championships.
And to close out preseason, the Dream couldn’t hold on and fell to the Mystics.
