ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - An Albany City Commissioner says many people in the community suffer from kidney failure.
Commissioner Jon Howard said the issue affects a lot of lower-income families.
He says many people here are on dialysis and a big reason is unhealthy lifestyles.
He’s working with nurses and dialysis specialists this weekend to try and educate the public on the importance of healthy lifestyles and getting regular health check-ups.
“If we can educate and inform, when he or she goes back to the doctor, ask your doctor to go over your lab work, he or she will tell you certain numbers that are high or low and what you need to work on. And that’s where we’re not finding individuals who are doing that,” said Howard.
The town hall meeting is Saturday at 10 a.m. at the East Albany Community Center at 1721 E. Oglethorpe Blvd.
