ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - “This is one of the greatest experiences of a lifetime as a child, meeting WNBA players,” says Kaylin Thompson.
Those are the words of Dougherty High School sophomore Kaylin Thompson as she talks about getting the opportunity to meet Atlanta Dream players.
“They are giving great advice and their putting in our minds that we can do anything, big things are coming for us,” says Thompson.
Atlanta Dream team captain and point guard Renee Montgomery says she wants the girls to take away one thing... everyone has a role on a team.
“You don’t have to be from a big city, you don’t have to be the best player ever to still make it. There are role players on every team. Some of the players on our team, their role is to be positive and cheer loud and keep the energy going,” says Montgomery.
Head Coach Nicki Collen says it was so important to make sure her players got the opportunity to meet with the Albany community.
“I think all these guys in the gym had an experience similar to this one when they were young. Whether it was professional, college, even high school players that they looked up to and seeing somebody that they can be like,” says Collen.
Dougherty High School sophomore Karrington Singfield says her year is made because she got to meet the team Friday.
“Thank you for spending your time out of your day to come help us and spend time with us and help us be greater than what we can be," says Singfield.
