ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Second Harvest of South Georgia was in Albany Thursday, handing out food and household items to help fight summer hunger.
“We are here trying to help stock their pantries ahead of kids getting out of school and we will be holding events like this throughout the summer,” says Chief Marketing Officer, Eliza McCall.
McCall says they were helping parents with children in Albany by giving them free items to help keep their families full for the summer.
“School gets out here in Dougherty County a week from today and summer is a time of critical need for food insecure families,” says McCall.
McCall says many kids rely and depend on free and reduced lunches so they are thankful they can help families, bringing the food to Albany.
“Transportation is a huge problem and so that is why we try to do these mobile food pantry events to bring the food pantry closer so that people can access it more easily,” says McCall.
Second Harvest says if you could not make it out to the food pantry Thursday that you can still be a part of future food pantry events.
“They can go on our website www.feedingsga.org and they can put in their address and look for our partner agency that is closest to them," says McCall.
Second Harvest plans many more of these food distributing events in the future.
