ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A total of 13 of Fred’s, Inc. locations will be closing in the Southwest Georgia area.
The company announced in April that 159 stores would be closing nationwide. Now, the company will be closing an additional 104 stores for a total of 263 locations.
Below is a list of all of the locations that are set to close in Southwest Georgia:
“After a careful review, we have made the decision to rationalize our footprint by closing under-performing stores, with a particular focus on locations with shorter duration leases," Fred’s Chief Executive Officer Joseph Anto stated in a press release. “Most of these stores have near‐term lease expirations and limited remaining lease obligations. Decisions that impact our associates in this way are difficult, but the steps we are announcing are necessary. We will make every effort to transition impacted associates to other stores where possible.”
While nearly five percent of the Fred’s locations that are closing are in Southwest Georgia, another 27 locations will close in other parts of the state.
Stores will also be closing in Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Illinois and Texas.
