AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - People across the world are sending messages of support and wishing prayers to Former President Jimmy Carter.
We are told Carer is recovering comfortably in Phoebe Sumter Medical center after he fell and broke his hip as he was leaving to go turkey hunting when he fell in his home in Plains.
He was taken to the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, and Monday night people from across the country as wishing him well.
At 94, President Jimmy Carter is America’s oldest living president, and is still hunting turkeys. He was headed to do just that Monday, but fell at his home in Plains.
“Oh it just broke my heart,” said Betty Brandt, an Americus resident.
The Carter Center sent out a press release early Monday, saying he had to have surgery after breaking his hip.
Brandt said she prays he’ll be o.k.
“He’s such a good man and good president and nice Christian fellow that everyone needs to listen to and follow,” she said.
Outcries of prayers and support spread across the internet.
President Donald Trump tweeted this:
United States Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia also tweeted:
“We are just lucky to have him as a president at one time,” said Brandt.
The Carter Center wouldn’t give us any more comments on the incident. They did report that the former President said he hopes the state will let him rollover his unused turkey hunting limit onto next year.
US Senator David Perdue of Georgia tweeted:
We are unsure of his condition at this time.
We were last told by the Carter Center that the surgery was successful.
