TALLAHASSEE, GA (WALB) - Florida State University’s softball team just won their sixth straight conference title!
The Noles did not allow a single run over the entire 2019 tournament, becoming just the second ACC team to accomplish such.
This historic run follows the program’s first ever national championship victory in 2018.
“We won a national championship and no one knew what we would do this year, I didn’t know what we would do this year," said Head Coach Lonni Alameda. "I never won a national championship, I didn’t know what it would be like, and it’s been emotional and there are expectations. As much as we try to not feel them and talk about them we really tried to figure out how our journey was going to be and when we’d be done with team 35 and the fun of everything and move on to team 36.”
“It’s just incredible, espcially being in front of your home crowd and feeling their energy every single pitch. And especially being a senior just competting one pitch at a time. I’m just so proud to be a Seminole," said Meghan King.
And for the fourth consecutive season, the reigning NCAA National Champion Seminoles are a top-eight national seed.
Earning the number four seed.
“Another tough regional, but it’s going to be that way. USF had a great season, South Carolina, Bethune-Cookman all great teams, we know them pretty well," said Alameda. "So, excited about it and now it’s time to get to work.”
“We’re so excited, especially getting the four seed. We’re just so psyched to be at home in front of our home crowd. They definitely came out this ACC series for us, championship for us. And we’re just excited to see what they got in them," said King.
FSU will begin the 2019 NCAA Softball Championship at home this Friday, against Bethune-Cookman at 2:30 p.m
