VSU graduates sound off on Gov. Kemp as key note speaker
Some graduates didn’t want him on campus because they believe he was to controversial and another key note speaker should have been chosen.

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -Governor Brian Kemp was met with supporters and opposers Saturday at Valdosta State University.

Kemp spoke to thousands at their 227th commencement.

However some graduates believe he was too controversial to have on campus.

Govenor Brian Kemp delivered the commencement speech to graduates of Valdosta State University Saturday night.

Kemp has faced opposition from many Valdosta State University students recently.

Some graduates didn’t want him on campus because they believe he was to controversial and another key note speaker should have been chosen.

Zoie Sheard says “I kinda personally feel like they should have chosen someone who wasn’t so controversial just so everyone could be like comfortable but even with that being said there’s always gonna be someone that is upset.”

Governor Brian Kemp addressed around 1,100 students from 6 colleges Saturday as they prepare to receive their diploma “it’s your responsibility to start the next adventure, chase the next dream hone your craft and strive to be better tomorrow then you are today”

Kemp is only the second governor to give the key note address on the Blazer’s campus.

One graduate from Leesburg is honored to have him on campus.

Amanda Miller says “I think having the governor speak at my graduation is a great honor”

Regardless of how they feel about Kemp the two women were excited for this day.

Miller says “nervous, I have to walk with the banner in wedges and that’s gonna be a little difficult but a little nervous.”

Sheard says “very excited, like, I never thought this day would come and it’s finally here and I just, I don’t know, I kinda want to cry.”
