LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) said there was a semi truck fire near Mile Marker 4, and State Road 376/Lakes Blvd., near Exit 5 in Lowndes County.
The agency said that I-75 was blocked in both directions, about 2:30 p.m.
Around 3:15 p.m., GDOT said the right two lanes were blocked southbound, and it’s expected to be cleared by 6 p.m.
Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk said that quick response from area fire companies prevented a disaster.
The semi was a fuel tanker with a full load. Only the cab of the semi burned, but they kept the fuel from igniting.
Paulk said the interstate will be completely open soon.
