VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Despite some of the perceptions about police officers across the nation, the Lowndes County community is continuing to pray for local law enforcement.
On Monday, the community gathered together for a quick prayer to kick off National Police Week.
During the event, they also prayed for the families of fallen officers worldwide.
Earl Durrance, a lieutenant with the Valdosta Police Department, shared that those officers are gone but they and their families are never forgotten.
“We still got those families’ back. Once you’re in the blue family, you’re in forever. It’s a tragic loss but we stand together still," said Lt. Durrance.
Lt. Durrance shared that he is humbled and thankful to live in a community that continues to show their appreciation.
He said that many people across the city are willing to pat them on the back and thank them for their service to the community.
