AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Carter Center reported Monday afternoon that former President Jimmy Carter was injured in a fall Monday morning.
While leaving to go turkey hunting, Carter fell at his home in Plains, according to a release from the foundation.
He is recovering comfortably from surgery to repair a broken hip at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus.
His surgeon said that the surgery was successful. His wife, Rosalynn, is with him.
Carter said his main concern is that turkey season ends this week, and he has not reached his limit. He hopes the State of Georgia will allow him to rollover the unused limit to next year.
Carter, 94, was elected as the 39th president in 1976.
