VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Second Harvest Food Bank needs your help to Stamp Out Hunger, and you can do it without leaving your yard.
Hosted in conjunction with the Postal Workers Union, Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in the nation.
Organizers are asking you to do your part by filling up the blue bags that you got in the mail with food.
Then you just sit it outside your door, near your mailbox, for a mail carrier or volunteer to pick up this Saturday.
“If they’re at the market Friday, getting ready for the weekend and they see a buy one, get one free, grab one for you and grab one to help your neighbors in need in South Georgia. Have a look through your pantry, if there’s some soups in there that a good bit maybe your kids don’t like that kind of chicken noodle soups, share it with a family who might," said Second Harvest Spokesperson Eliza McCall.
They are only accepting store bought, non-perishable food items in non-glass containers.
If you have not received a blue bag in the mail, then you can use a regular grocery bag or box.
They ask that you put the food out before your mail carrier comes or that you wait until Monday if you forget.
