It’s to recognize the hard work of nurses in the community, officials said.

A special gesture that shows Phoebe nurses their dedication has not gone unnoticed.

“It is extremely rewarding to be a registered nurse because you’re touching patients at their most vulnerable point in time," Evelyn Olennick, Phoebe Putney chief nursing officer, said. "Generally, when they’re in a crisis situation and they’re seeking that individual to provide that skillful care, knowledgeable care but also care that is compassionate.”

The “Nurses Week” proclamation encourages everyone to spend the week thanking the nurses in their life.
