ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany veteran got a new roof thanks to two construction companies and a veterans organization.

Owens Corning Platinum Contractors, Purple Heart Homes Inc. and S&S Roofing and Construction worked together to give Doug Ellis and his family a new roof.

S&S General Manager Curtis Stanfield said Ellis had an older roof and Hurricane Michael damaged it significantly. He said it felt good to put a new roof on the home.

“It was time for a new roof, a little face lift on the home," Stanfield said. “We are doing some carpeting work along with that. We are trying to make everything come together for them.”

Ellis was not home Tuesday during the roofing process, but Stanfield said he was very excited for the new roof.

“Our veterans give so much of themselves to this country so it is obvious that we should recognize them with something as small as putting a roof on their home which makes a big difference down the road for them, safe security of their home for many years to come,” Stanfield said.

Ellis retired from the U.S. Army and served two tours in Iraq, before returning to Ft. Bragg after his second deployment. Ellis was honorably released from active duty because of injuries sustained overseas and was medically discharged in 2013.

S&S Roofing said this is a moment they will never forget.

“When it comes to military family and what they have went through and what they have sacrificed for this country, it is a special meaning at that point to give back to those folks," Stanfield said.
