Albany police investigating after 13-year-old shot in head
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Police Department (APD) is investigating after a 13-year-old, a student at Albany Middle School, was shot in the forehead Wednesday evening.
According to APD, the teen was brought to the hospital by a private vehicle.
Police said the shooting happened in the 200 block of North Carroll Street around 6 p.m.
“Since we first learned about this tragic incident Wednesday evening, we have been offering support to the family of the student in the form of social workers and counselors to help them cope," said DCSS Superintendent Kenneth Dyer. "Today, we ask that the community join us in lifting him up in prayer.”
The teen has been airlifted to a trauma center, according to APD.
Investigators are working to discover what led to the shooting, but police said there are conflicting stories about how the shooting happened.
