LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - A Monday traffic stop on I-75 turned into a drug arrest after almost 200 pounds of marijuana was seized, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
A black GMC Yukon XL was stopped going south on I-75 for traffic violations, the sheriff’s office said.
During the traffic stop, a canine was used and was “alerted to the presence of the odor of narcotics or illegal substances,” the sheriff’s office said.
A search was done on the vehicle and 180 pounds of marijuana was found packed in two large luggage bags.
Sulaica Solay, the driver, and Xiomara Rivera, the passenger, were arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana.
The estimated street value of the seized drug was $725,000.
