VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of community leaders from across the state of Georgia visited Valdosta to discuss community development.
The city is hosting the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for its Georgia Initiative of Community Housing retreat.
For the retreat, the group is coming together to talk about creating affordable housing, property inheritance, community planning and more.
Program Director Jermaine Durham said that events like these are necessary because community planning can be a complex process.
“So to be able to sit down in a focused manor and have different people from all walks of life that are sitting down around the table to try to develop these plans is almost essential when it comes to the planning process in community development," said Durham.
Durham said that one of the main goals of the program is to improve the lives of individuals across Georgia. He said that they hope to do that through helping to provide affordable housing, which he believes can help improve the overall quality of life for many.
