Killer loses appeal in Cordele shooting death

ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - Varocus Antonio Grant has lost the appeal of his murder conviction in the Georgia Supreme Court for the murder of 30-year-old Travis Sintell Shivers in Cordele, in 2011.

Grant was 22 when he turned himself in to Cordele Police on a Sunday morning in connection with the death of Shivers.

Grant was charged with murder and possession of firearm by a convicted felon.

Officials say around 9:30 on a Saturday night, someone fired several shots at 30-year-old Travis Shivers near a 23rd Avenue apartment.

Shivers was found lying on the sidewalk. He was rushed to Crisp Regional Hospital where he died.

A woman at the scene said Shivers left behind four children.

No motive was ever released in the shooting.
