BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WCTV) - Bainbridge Public Safety K9 Kenzo will soon be donning new body armor, thanks to a donation from a non-profit organization, ‘Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.’
Kenzo will be getting a vest to help protect him against bullets and stabbing threats. The vest will be embroidered with the words, "Honoring Those Who Served and Sacrificed”.
Bainbridge Public Safety said in a news release, “Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,300 protective vests, in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $5.7 million.”
Kenzo's new vest is expected to arrive in eight to ten weeks.
BPS says Kenzo, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois/Shepherd Mix, is certified in both Tracking and Narcotics and has been a member of the department since May 2017.
