‘You’re not God. To me, you’re just the devil’

Coffee Co. father angry after daughter killed, found in makeshift grave

3 Arrest Made in Kristi Bell Case

Coffee County, GA (WALB) - A Coffee County father is angry and demanding justice for his murdered daughter.

Jimmy Bowen feels like a part of him has been snatched away.

Kristi Bell was the mother of a toddler looking to straighten out her life, but Bowen said her life was tragically cut short and he won’t stop fighting until justice is served.

“You’re not God. To me you’re just the devil,” said Bowen.

Bowen’s grandson had his mother tragically taken away from him.

“You’re very sick individuals, I mean you don’t, you don’t deserve another breath,” said Bowen. “You took this baby’s mother, you took my daughter.”

Bowen and his fiance now have to continue caring for his grandson.

Deputies found the child’s mother, 25-year-old Kristi Bell and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Steven James Ward, buried in a makeshift grave.

Bowen and his fiance turned the grave into a memorial.

“It’s over something so senseless, I mean it doesn’t even make sense,” said Bowen. “She didn’t deserve that and he didn’t either and to me you’re a bunch of cowards, I mean you know, it’s just straight cowards.”

Deputies arrested three men in connection to the case Friday.

The bodies were found Feb. 9, off Deep Woods road, just outside of Nicholls.

“They took this little boy’s, you know his future with his mother you know,” said Bowen. “And it wasn’t fair to him and it wasn’t fair to none of her family or her.”

Joseph James Osburne Burch, 25, and Dedrick Allen Johnson, 29, were charged with two counts of concealing a death. They are being held in the Coffee County Jail without bond.

“And I actually had met Stephen’s mother and sister and they are wonderful people,” said Bowen.

U.S. Marshals helped deputies arrest Christopher Lane Jones, 21, in San Diego County, California.

Jones is facing a list of charges, including two counts of malice murder.

He’s in custody, waiting for deputies to bring him back to Georgia.

Bowen is angry and fighting for justice.

“This is a tragic mistake that nobody can change,” said Bowen.

Deputies did not say why Kristi and Stephen were killed.

The family said they want to cremate Bell because they don’t want to bury her again.

Bowen said they’ll have a memorial service for Bell next Saturday, but they haven’t set a time or a location.
