PELHAM, GA (WALB) - It's been since 2014 since the Pelham Hornets boys basketball team has been able to clinch the region title.
But with a couple of those gridiron greats heading to the court, the Hornets region drought could come to an end.
The Hornets have made huge strides this season, as they look to make it past last years sweet sixteen finish.
Pelham has been unstoppable at home this season, going 8-0.
Head coach John Hamilton said this year looks bright for the Hornets.
With a couple of those region champion football Hornets on the team, many of them are excited and ready for another shot at a state title.
“Well we got off to kind of a slow start because our football guys were getting re-acclimated to basketball," said Hamilton. "Then when they came off the field, we just wanted to keep the work ethic up. Just the guys consistently working, consistently producing. Up and down the highs and lows. The guys did a real good job of coming out and giving me a good consistent effort.”
The Hornets will have three more home games in their last five games of the regular season.
They start with hosting Mitchell County Friday at 6 P.M.
