Thief steals vehicle with keys left inside

Albany Theft by Taking

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An SUV was stolen in East Albany, after police say the owner left his keys inside the vehicle.

It happened just after 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 2400 block of Brierwood Drive.

Police say a 2015 GMC Sierra was stolen after the victim parked at a gas pump.

He went inside and just moments later police say someone in a gray hoodie entered the vehicle and drove off.

WALB News 10 spoke to folks at a gas station nearby who say this isn't the best place to leave your car unattended.

“Sometimes I come here and when I see a lot of people hanging around, I don’t like to come. You know, I’ll go to another store,” said Van Wilson, who is a regular at that gas station.

Police were unable to identify the person in the store’s surveillance video.

One woman said she relies on the gas station’s cameras to give her peace of mind.

“You have to check your surroundings like the side of the building and make sure the cameras are on. But the guy that works in there he is always at the window so,” said Pearl Huggins, another regular at that gas station.

If you have any information about this stolen SUV, you are encouraged to call the Albany Police Department.
