ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Jury selection will get underway Monday in the trial of a man charged with a deadly shooting outside an Albany Motel.
It happened back in 2015 outside the America’s Best Value Inn.
Marquel “Chad” Culpepper is charged with malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault.
Prosecutors said he shot and killed Kendrick Miller, 38, outside the America’s Best Value Inn on North Slappey Boulevard in April 2015.
The motel manager told WALB at the time that Culpepper ran up to Miller outside the office of the hotel and shot him without warning and ran away.
Police said Culpepper fled the state to New York after the shooting.
Last week Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards said the community needs to work on communicating instead of acting violently.
“These pleas are again are issues that ultimately the courts have had to resolve, but again fundamentally they’re domestic violence issues. And so we need as a community to work on resolving these issues,” said Edwards.
The DA said prosecutors believe they know the motive for the murder but have not disclosed it.
Jury selection is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Dougherty County Courthouse.
