THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - Hurricane Michael and recent rain has stopped construction on the Thomas County shooting range.
County leaders suspect they’re nearly three months behind schedule.
Thomas County Public Works Director Tony Bodiford said that so far, they’ve cleared out all the trees and laid most of the storm drains.
Bodiford said the 13-acre lot has been too muddy since October for any additional work to get done.
“It’s just too wet, our trucks are getting stuck going in and out, our equipment is getting stuck. The ground is just too saturated and we can’t do anything right now," said Bodiford.
Despite the delays, Bodiford said they still plan to finish the work by the end of the year.
Once the ground dries up, Bodiford said they’ll start working on the individual stations and building the facilities.
