ALBANY, GA (WALB) - As students returned to school Monday from winter break, Albany police were out checking for speeders in school zones.
The Albany Police Department said that when it comes to school zones, it’s time to start taking extra precaution because when you speed inside a school zone, the fine is doubled.
With the first day back to school in 2019 for the Dougherty County School System officially in the books, the Albany Police Department is doing its part to keep students safe by cracking down on speeding inside the school zone.
APD Corporal Terry Brown said their biggest concern for drivers is to make sure they are paying attention when they are on the road.
“So, you know you have to pick your child up, just slow down," said Brown. "That’s just the main thing. Just slow down and pay attention. Too many accidents involving pedestrians are happening way too often and just because people are not paying attention.”
APD said the biggest concern for them is that you pay attention on the road because speeding isn’t worth the ticket or a life.
