ALBANY, GA (WALB) - One Dougherty County commissioner said his main priority going into 2019 is to find a way to lower insurance premiums in his district.
District 6 Commissioner Anthony Jones said homeowners in his district pay more for their fire insurance premiums. He said they need another fire station, butler building or somewhere to hold extra water out in the rural areas of the county.
Jones said the rates are so expensive, some home owners can’t afford the insurance at all.
“Well I ran into a homeowner not long ago who didn’t have coverage at all because he couldn’t afford it. I mean you can’t have people running around like that,” said Jones.
Jones said he will push the need for another fire station this year.
The first commission meeting of the year will be Monday, January 7.
