Lady Rams Soccer team begins search for new head coach

ASU soccer searching for new head coach

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Lady Rams Soccer team is a fairly new addition at Albany State, but is quickly making an impact around the athletic community.

But as the Rams await the 2019 season, it seems they will have a new head coach on the sideline this year.

Former head coach Alex Pickrell has stepped down as the Albany State Women’s soccer head coach.

Pickrell helped lead the Rams in their first two seasons at ASU and helped lead the Rams to their first win in program history this past season.

Albany State Athletic Director Sherri Gordon said they wish Pickrell the best on her future endeavors, but the process to fill this spot has already begun.

The Lady Rams soccer team is getting set to enter the Peach Belt Conference in 2019, and is hoping to find the perfect fit for their program.

“I totally respect her and what she’s done for a great time," said Gordon. "I’ve actually, since her departure, had the chance to meet one on one with all our student athletes and their experience here and how the university can help better the soccer program. What they want to look for in a new head coach.”

Gordon and ASU hope to have a new head coach by February.
