Way to go to the organizers of this year's Snickers Marathon Energy Bar Marathon, the Regions Bike Race, and the Mardi Gras Celebration!
These events were the largest ever put on by the city. Mardi Gras organizers say more than 37,000 people attended Saturday's street party, 30% more than last year.
And we often hold the leadership of the civic center to the fire for the lack of events at the facility but this past Friday's WrestleMania and Saturday's Steve Harvey comedy show both drew big crowds of more than 6,000.
The scheduled performance by Larry the Cable Guy will hopefully draw another large crowd. All we ask now is that you keep 'em coming!
We also need to acknowledge and say thank you to the hundreds of volunteers from the community who helped to make these events possible and gave our visitors a taste of true southern hospitality.
We know these types of events take a lot of planning and manpower to pull off but we're encouraging organizers to possibly consider putting events on such as these at least twice a year!
The visitors bring a much-needed economic punch to Albany and Dougherty County and their visit will hopefully inspire them to want to come back.
Again, to all responsible, way to go!
