LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Lee County continues to grow and that growth is having an impact on the school system.
Lee County school leaders are reporting record enrollment numbers this school year. Right now, 6,162 students are enrolled in Lee County schools. That's up by about 160 students from last school year. The number is expected to grow to about 200 as the first few weeks of the new school year continues.
For parents of some of those students, the cost of education will be a little higher this school year. The Lee County School System has an agreement with staff members who live outside of the district.
Their children are allowed to attend Lee County schools by paying non-resident tuition. That tuition will now increase by another $90 per year. "It's 50 cents a day more than it was last year, $7 a day per child," said Lee County School Superintendent Dr. Larry Walters.
That adds up to about $1,260 a year.
