Jay always knew that he would do something involving the weather. It all started with being born only a few days after his home in the Tampa Bay area was brushed by Hurricane Gladys and continued when he would rush to the window in his family's living room to watch the daily summertime thunderstorms - admittedly not the smartest thing to do.
On the advise of his boyhood idol - longtime Bay Area Meteorologist Roy Leep - Jay headed to Florida State University to pursue a degree in Meteorology, graduating in 1998. While at FSU, Jay was part of a team of students which included current WALB Morning Meteorologist Chris Zelman in doing daily broadcasts at FSU's cable access channel.
From there Jay went to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where he was the Chief Meteorologist at ABC affiliate WBKP from 1999 until 2002. After that, Jay headed south to Wausau, Wisconsin and CBS affiliate WSAW, where he served as both Weekend and Morning Meteorologist before coming to the Good Life City.
Professionally, Jay is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association and holds the AMS Seal of Approval.
In his spare time, Jay enjoys spending time with his wife Kelly and 7-year-old son Jayden. He also enjoys reading, astronomy and, of course, weather-watching. He also is a fan of soccer, football and tennis.
