1.  Does your practice accept insurance?

We accept all major insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid.  If we are not on your provider list, we will submit the necessary paperwork in order to get on your panel.  Our goal is to provide as many payment options as possible.

2.  Does Dr. McCowan operate on children?

Yes.  He has been trained to perform a myriad of procedures on children.  Rest assurred that if the child requires specialty care, Dr. McCowan will assist in the referral process.   As a parent, he understands the importance of "getting it right the first time", especially when it comes to children.

3.  Do you perform  office procedures?

Yes.  Our In-House Minor Operating Room is safe and very effective for removing skin lumps and lesions.

4.  Does Dr. McCowan perform "Obesity Surgery"?

While there are several different types of procedures that are available,  Dr. McCowan has the Advanced Laparoscopic Surgical Training that is the foundation for these procedures.  He is scheduled to undergo additional training so that he can place the adjustable Lap Band.  He will be performing the Lap Band procedure exclusively at Smith Northview Hospital in Valdosta, Georgia.

5.  What are the advantages of Laparoscopic Surgery?

We use a series of 1/4"-1/2" incisions to perform a host of procedures.  This allows for less post-operative pain and a faster return to work and normal activity.

6.  What hopsitals do you serve?

Dr. McCowan is on staff with full admiting and operating privileges at Smith Northview Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Adel.

7.  Does Dr. McCowan perform "the stomach wrap" for the treatment of persistant GERD/heartburn/acid reflux disease?

Yes.  Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication is his most rewarding surgical procedure to perform.  He has extensive experience is this procedure.  The age range of patients on who he has performed the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication procedure is 2 (two) - 75 (seventy five).

8.  Does he perform Endoscopy?

Yes.  Dr. McCowan has trained extensively on both upper (EGD) and lower (colonoscopy) endoscopic procedures.  He is able to provide this service at both Smith Northview Hospital and the Memorial Hospital of Adel.

9.  How does your office handle paperwork?

Paperwork is very minimal at McCowan Surgical Associates.  His office utilizes the latest in electronic charting and record keeping/secure storage.  Our turn around time is very short and can be forwarded without much difficulty.

10. Of all the General Surgeons in the area, why should I choose Dr. McCowan?

He has received excellent medical and surgical training from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is certified by the American Board of Surgery.  It is his reverence for the "Surgeon who has never lost a patient" that puts Dr. McCowan in a different category.  He never goes into a surgical procedure without asking for Divine Intervention.
