Wildfires in south Georgia have now consumed more than a quarter of a million acres.  Smoke from the fires and the Florida Bugaboo fire has drifted hundreds of miles, all the way to central North Carolina.   That triggered emergency calls to fire departments across the region.

The two biggest fires in south Georgia have each burned about 140,000 acres of land.       Pines that were scorched weeks ago in Ware County are casting off needles and increasing the potential for a re-burn.

In Atkinson County, the roundabout fire is 95 percent contained and has cost nearly $610,000 to fight.

There are 36 active wildfires in Georgia that have burned more than 290,000 acres.

The video attached to the story includes photos from Albany developer Huddy Hudgens showing those dust devils we first told you about yesterday. They're huge, some of them reaching a thousand feet high, near Pearson.

We've also got some still picture of the fire that continues to burn in Ware County.  That fire continues to send black smoke into the air and is burning fiercely near some of the highways.
