Separate construction from green debris

March 10, 2007

Americus -- Sumter County officials remind clean up crews and relief workers to properly dispose of debris. There are two temporary sites in Americus that accept dump trucks full of leaf, limb, or tree debris only.

If you are a government official, take your green debris to Airport Road off of Highway 49.

Private contractors or crews should bring green debris to Industrial Park off Lockheed Martin Boulevard.

If you need to dispose of construction or demolition debris, three sites are now open: The TransWaste Site off McMathmill Road, and the Taylor and Macon County landfills.

County officials ask people who bring their debris to the side of the road to separate the waste between construction and green debris.

"Some of this debris can be put to good use through some of the pulp wood companies, some of the other major manufacturing companies. Construction and demolition debris has certain regulations from EPD, so we have to keep all the debris separate as much as possible," said County Administrator Lynn Taylor.
