Club raises funds for special needs kids

March 4, 2007

Albany -- An Albany restaurant serves up some donations to special needs children. The Albany Civitan Club took over the Quickie Restaurant on Slappey Boulevard to raise money for a weeklong summer camp for mentally and physically handicapped kids.

The group is working to host the annual summer camp at Kolomoki Mounds State Park, giving the children a chance to play, fish, and participate in other outdoor activities.

"It just broke my heart, that these kids are sometimes overlooked, and it's just a week for them to be normal," said camp chairman Mike Woodward.

It costs the Civitan Club $17,000 to offer the camp for free to the children, this June 3rd through 8th.

To help out you can contact the Albany Civitan Club at (229) 344-4404 or mail a check payable to Camp Civitan to P.O. Box 1661, Albany, GA 31702.
