Six people killed in Baker County

Devastated by family loss-- Rev. Richard McFarland Devastated by family loss-- Rev. Richard McFarland

March 2, 2007

Newton  -- The two to three mile area that was hit last night around 11:30.  At least 30 homes have extensive damage.

St. Matthews Missionary Baptist church on highway 37 is almost destroyed.

On Pretoria Road, a small trailer-home park was wiped out. One man lost his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.

"I've never seen anything like it in my whole life, Said a tearful Rev. Richard McFarland, Father of storm victims.  "Straight took the whole family, wiped the whole family out...  Can't even see the foundation of where the trailer-home was. I don't understand, maybe it hit fast where he couldn't get out in time."

Dog teams were at the site this morning searching the rubble for more bodies.  At one point they believed a baby was missing but confirmed the child was staying with relatives in Camilla at the time the storm hit and the child is safe.
