5. If I have breast cancer, do I have to have my whole breast removed?

Over 80% of women with breast cancer can be treated with breast-conservation surgery which allows her to retain most of her breast tissue.  This does not affect her chances of being cured of her cancer.  The most common reason that women have a mastectomy for breast cancer when they could have been treated with breast-conservation is misinformation provided by her surgeon.
