Fire leaves five orphans

Oct. 29, 2001

A young Albany couple died in a house fire early Saturday... Fortunatley, their five children were not at home at the time, but now they must cope with losing both parents.

Antonio and Wontrece Stevens had been married just over one year. Wontrece, known to everyone as Shell King, had met Antonio while they both worked at McDonald's two years ago, and married.

Antonio had two children by another marriage, Shell King had three. None of the children was home Saturday night when the fire killed their parents.

Investigators says they believe the fire started in a sofa in the living room. Careless smoking they say is one of the possibilities that may have started the fatal blaze.

Funeral services for Antonio and Wontrece Stevens will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the New Birth Fellowship Church.
